countering the confusion of consumer packaged goods

e-mark

The e-mark (℮) is a symbol placed on pre-packaged products to show that they comply with EEA regulations on weights and measures.

Broadly speaking, the ℮ mark indicates that the average quantity of the product inside the pack is not less than the amount indicated on the pack. So, if your pack of pasta says “500g”, the average pack is going to contain at least 500g of pasta.

The e-mark is a large, distinctive letter “e”.
