typeface

A design for letters, numbers, symbols, etc.

Commonly referred to (technically incorrectly) as a font, which is the actual implementation of that design, either in physical form (the physical metal type in a printing press) or in digital form (a font file on a computer).

Examples of typefaces include Helvetica, Garamond, Baskerville, Bodoni, Times New Roman, and Georgia.
