countering the confusion of consumer packaged goods

weight of purchase

Weight of purchase refers to the number of products, or alternatively the amount of products (e.g. litres/grams), by a given household in a time period.

So if the average household buys a 500g pot of yoghurt 52 times a year, the average weight of purchase for yoghurt is 26kg a year.

Sometimes, average weight of purchase isn’t considered in a time period, but is instead looked at per visit to the supermarket – as the weight of purchase of items in a basket.
