Similar to embossing, debossing is a print technique whereby heat and pressure are applied to the printed material, causing indentations that are tactile and can be felt by the end consumer.

Debossing is effectively the opposite of embossing; it applies pressure from above to create a lowered area, whereas embossing applies pressure from below to create a raised area.
