kerning
-
Kerning is the adjustment of spacing between letters in a passage of text in order to make them look better and avoid awkward, gappy spacing.
Awkward gaps often occur when certain letters appear next to each other; kerning can be used in order to maintain desirable proportions.
Without kerning, the A and the V or the W and a appear too far apart from one another; applying kerning to close up the space looks better. -
